Pure Water and a Clean Environment
We as water professionals know that these precious gifts can only be maintained by individuals who have pursued the specialized education and training integral to a successful career in water management.
One of the things we do best in the South Carolina Section of AWWA and the Water Environment Association of South Carolina is to provide, support and encourage environmental education. Now the Water Associations have joined forces in a bold new way, through a collaborative campaign to support environmental education: A Legacy of Learning. A Legacy of Learning will indeed create a legacy by establishing a new endowment which will provide scholarships for many generations of water professionals to come. A Legacy of Learning scholarships in the water and wastewater fields will be awarded to students at all levels of higher education throughout our state, giving preference to members of either organization and members of their immediate families.
With the A Legacy of Learning endowment, the South Carolina Section will broaden its support for undergraduate and graduate study in the water environment fields at state universities across South Carolina. Within five years, the Section can be providing as much as $15,000 in scholarship funds annually.
For the Water Environment Association of South Carolina, the campaign will fund larger awards at technical colleges within each of the Association’s ten districts, filling gaps left by South Carolina’s lottery-funded scholarships.
Take your place among colleagues in your field
By giving to the A Legacy of Learning campaign, you will be reaching out to others who travel a well-worn path. You and many others have led the way over the years, but rising education costs and shrinking public funds make it more difficult than ever for up-and coming students to follow in your footsteps.
The endowment, formed now from members’ and friends’ gifts, will exist in perpetuity, generating income for generations yet to be born. This is, indeed, a legacy of pure water to our families, loved ones, and all who call South Carolina their home. |
